Good quality ramen in Richmond. The restaurant is clean and the staff are fast and attentive.
We got our Shio Ramen, tartar chicken and prawn salad in about 5 minutes. Taste for the ramen was great and I like the torch on the pork before serving. Highly recommend and will surely be back.
Parking sucks by the way. -

I've had a lot of friends give me mixed reviews about Sanpoutei ramen. Some said it was a decent place to spend money on a meal while others have said they really just wasn't feeling it - that the noodles weren't the consistency they liked or the soup wasn't good. After waiting for a few years, I finally decided to try Sanpoutei out with a friend a few weeks back, so here I am now writing this review.
Surely, if you're reading this review, you at least enjoy eating ramen, at various ramen places around metro Vancouver. Chances are, you probably know a thing or two about the process of making and ordering ramen, too! It's also very likely that you, with your understanding of this very niche part of Japanese cuisine, realize that no two ramen bowls from two different shops are created equal. Noodle thickness, chashu fattiness, broth consistency and flavour profile, extra toppings and their variations, etc. These are all variables that are modified and which vary from shop to shop which may or may not please the customer who, like all of us, have our preferences when it comes to what we like in a ramen bowl.
Now, on to the actual food. I thought that the ramen here was actually quite nice and I don't remember thinking about anything bad about Sanpoutei. My friend and I both ordered the same, basic shio ramen, and we also ordered one side of chicken karaage to share. Our order came out of the kitchen piping hot and with the same plating as with any ramen shop, as expected. The portion size for the noodles were decent and I found my bowl of ramen to be quite filling. The chicken karaage was a tad bit on the small side and overpriced for the portion, but the batter was crispy and the chicken tasted fresh.
The reason why I'm giving Sanpoutei a 5-star is because I can't say anything really bad about it. The broth was full of flavour and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The meat wasn't cheap in terms of portion size and the toppings were all a cohesive part of the dish and blended well. Service was decent, but nothing overly impressive. One thing that really stood out to me was the atmosphere. As Google reads, Sanpoutei really is a nice modern eating establishment with Japanese accents. I'd imagine this would be a great place to just sit back and unwind after a hard day at work with some colleagues over bowls of ramen.
All in all, I really can't think of anything bad about my experience at this place. It impressed me overall, and I'll probably be coming back again soon to try out some of their other menu items. If you haven't tried Sanpoutei ramen, I'd suggest trying it out yourself before making a judgement about it based on hearsay or others' experiences (unless you really trust your source)! Like every other ramen shop, there will be places you like and don't like, but it doesn't hurt to try something new every now and then. -

My Japanese friend brought me here so I knew this restaurant had to be good. But I didn't know how good it was until I tried it for myself. Sanpoutei is definitely in my top 3 ramen restaurants in the world!
I tried the shio ramen and have to say that this chashiu is literally the best I've ever had. The fact that they torch it on top adds a nice smokiness to the meat without over cooking it. They tend to serve thicker noodles here which I don't mind since it grabs onto the soup really well. The soup is on the thicker side (so more like a light gravy than a broth) however it works really well with the noodles! If you're a spice lover like me, make sure to ask the people who work there for some chilli flakes which they will happily give you! -

The old lady who was at the front desk seated us at the low square table when there was so many tables available. The seat she made us sit at was crowded because another person was occupying the same corner. Another waitress let us move seat to the other side of the square table. Then a few minutes later the old lady seated someone else at that same corner. The new customer asked to move away too! Seems like that old lady was OBSESSED with seating customers there. A dense one she is.
My ramen came and I took a few bites and found a strand of hair in it. I sent it back to the kitchen and was offered ice cream mochi instead. I figured I should accept it since there was no other way of compensating me.
In the end that stupid old lady didn't even give me a discount for the ramen I barely ate. Dumb bitch. Don't come back here the service was terrible. The food was mediocre. The portion was tiny, the chashu was fatty all for $15 for the cheapest option. The mochi was old and tasteless. -

My boyfriend brought me here and I ordered this spicy miso ramen, and I've been getting it ever since. He usually gets the tsukemen and he would always try my soup and this time he decided to order it as well. By far... MY FAVOURITE I love their thick and creamy broth! The spiciness level is perfect
